Message911 Has SMS/Text Messaging!
This new feature is yet another valuable tool for your communication toolbox. Used in conjunction with your voice messaging notifications, we’re certain it will prove quite effective. To take advantage of your latest tool, you will have to set up a main text keyword.
First, what is a main text keyword? A main text keyword is what allows us to comply with regulations that require your members to opt-in to receive your text messages. To initiate and opt-in your members, you must create a main text keyword which will be automatically associated with your main all-encompassing group: My Contacts. We know you’re excited to start using the new texting feature, but as with any tool, there are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Choose the right main text keyword –
—a. Make sure it’s short and easy to remember.
—b. Additional sub-keywords will be an extension of the main text keyword, so be sure to pick something you like.
2. Choose a shortened company name –
—a. The company name appears on the initial opt-in text.
—b. Make sure it is recognizable, so your recipients know what they are opting in for.
3. When setting up your SMS/Text notifications–
—a. A main text keyword must be established prior to sending text notifications.
—b. Group members can be added to your member list but must opt-in before receiving text messages.
—c. The phone number will turn green once the member has completed the opt-in process.
—d. A legend is available at the bottom of the group information page to explain the different statuses.
—e. Each Group is capable of having a different sub-keyword that can be used to join a group directly.
4. When sending SMS/Text Messages -
—a. Members of your group must opt-in prior to being able to receive your text messages.
—b. To send an initial opt-in request, simply look under the additional options menu in the left navigation on the groups page.
—c. And remember, only 160 characters are allowed in a text message, so make sure it’s straightforward and to the point.
